Create a Waste Reduction Program

Bio Janitorial Service will use our waste assessment plan and develop a waste reduction program to manage your business’ waste more efficiently. Because businesses differ so much, it’s important to tailor a plan to meet your company’s needs. However; a waste reduction program should incorporate certain basic elements.

  1. Get everyone Involved
  2. Create a Team
  3. Review your Waste Assessment
  4. Develop a Plan
  5. Put it into Action
  6. Keep Track

Develop and Implement a Plan

This written document will outline your business waste reduction steps, and how they will be implemented. The complexity of this plan will depend on the size and type of business; a manufacturing facility’s plan may have more steps than a typical office’s because of the chemicals used in its processes.

Regardless of your business, our recycling plan includes the following steps:

  1. Reduce waste at the source
  2. Reuse materials
  3. Recycle in the office

Once the Bio Janitorial Service plan is developed for your site, you need to educate staff on the new programs. All staff should receive program information in writing, and it should be incorporated into the employee handbook. Staff should be updated on the program periodically, including how much waste has been reduced and positive efforts of specific individual/departments.

Conduct a Waste Assessment

A waste assessment (or waste audit) is a determination of the types and quantities of materials thrown away each day/week, and the alternative to disposal of those materials. It establishes a waste “benchmark” to use in setting up your waste reduction program. It is made up of three major steps:

  1. The origin and destination of trash
  2. Reduction/reuse opportunities
  3. Alternative disposal options

You can also contact your local waste management company to have a third party conduct an assessment for you.
